Domestic Violence: Inside the Minds of Men who Batter and the Women who Love Them

This course presents critical information for healthcare providers about domestic violence. It is written by award-winning instructors Matt and Susan McMillan. Matt is a former police officer, prosecutor, and judge, and Susan is a licensed mental health counselor and jury trial consultant.
Students will come away with a new-found understanding regarding the myths and realities of domestic violence and how it affects us all.

Domestic violence is so pervasive that there is one simple truth as a mental health counselor that you MUST know: You must have a thorough working knowledge of domestic violence if you intend to be a competent professional. Whether you see primarily adults, children, the elderly, singles, or couples, domestic violence affects them all. And even substance abuse professionals must know about domestic violence.

Florida: Required for initial licensure and every third renewal.

Outside Florida: Many other states require this course. Check with your Board.

Teletherapy and the Pandemic of the Coronavirus

Written by former lawyer and judge Matt McMillan and his psychotherapist wife Susan McMillan, this 3- hour course is a must-read for every therapist who is wondering how best to handle the delicate issues of psychotherapy and telehealth during the current pandemic or any time.  How, when and why should you transition to teletherapy, and what are the implications for the therapeutic relationship?  Does teletherapy work as well as in-person therapy and if so, for which disorders?  What does it mean to be HIPAA compliant during COVID-19? What special forms do I need?  Has the government made any special exceptions to the therapy rules for the pandemic?
